The venue has long since been demolished in favour of a housing estate points out Duncan and the school has now been renamed Kirkly High. own. Mick left to form his own group Just Us. Duncan would later sing with the outfit. The group had become known as The Sumerai when they entered the Norwich Mercury Beat contest in May 1965
The Beathovens formed at the Alderman & Woodrow School, Lwst in 1963. Singer-less, the group brought in choirboy Boggis to front the group. “We didn’t do much as The Beathovens,” said Boggis. “We had several name changes before finally becoming The Sumerai.” The group rehearsed in the garage beside The Kirkly PH, Long Road, Lwst and performed some of their early gigs at the venue. Saggers was the only member to have come from the town’s grammar school, until Peek replaced Brown, who had left to form his own group Just Us. A band Boogis goes on to join after The Sumerai fold.
